Tele2 may face regulatory fine over use of 06 numbers
2014-08-12 17:14:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The ACM has extended sanctions against Tele2 Netherlands for using 06 numbers for services other than mobile telephony. in April, the regulator threatened to fine Tele2 if it did not stop the practice. Tele2 appealed, but the ACM rejected its objections and left the deadline of 12 August for Tele2 to stop the services. Tele2 can still appeal again. The 06 number series is reserved for mobile lines in the Netherlands, but the regulator found that Tele2 was using some numbers for equipment at a fixed location to support SMS traffic with mobile phones. For this type of SMS service, operators are expected to use the 097 number series, reserved for M2M and data-only applications. The number restrictions are due to the limited number of 06 numbers remaining.

Websites that aren't encrypting connections with their visitors may get a lower ranking on Google's search engine, a step the company said it is taking to promote better online security practices. The move is designed to spur developers to implement TLS (Transport Layer Security), which uses a digital certificate to encrypt traffic, signified by a padlock in most browsers and "https" at the beginning of a URL.
