I agree completely that something must be done to reassure consumers. This hurts the entire industry. As an affiliate marketer in the flower industry who works very hard to follow honest business practices, I really feel like the unscrupulous affiliates ruin the market for us all. How is an honest person supposed to compete against such deceptive tactics? To make matters worse people like this make it more difficult to establish crediblity with the consumer. Thanks for shining some light on this subject that is in dire need of public attention.

Does your neighborhood shop have a marketing plan? Most don't. That's why the local florist group I belong to in Florida invited a marketing consultant to talk to us. She had many good ideas that don't cost much money. It's too complicated to explain here. But I shot video and turned the presentation into a DVD. Anybody who wants a copy should call my shop at 407-359-2484.

I read an interesting article in the latest super floral retailing about FTD. It is now affiliated with a chain of stores known as Price Choppers.I believe Price Choppers is an outgoing only member. It seems that being an outgoing only member, is reserved for everyone except the "real" florist.

Michael... Thanks for the Kudo's. We take great pride in our sites as they do take a concerted effort by several individuals to make happen. Like you mentioned, sadly many do not do the math that they should, but as more and more florists are getting connected the information is spreading. Regarding Bloomnet, one has to decide for themselves. Bloomnet has come out with some interesting changes to the old models, but sadly not really a "new model". That too, is something *we* hope top rectify this summer. Thanks again.

I should add a disclaimer to this post, that as of this date, Teleflora has not really gotten into the "Drop Ship" program in the methods we traditionally consider bypassing the Real Florist. Their site does not show items like their counterpart in Downers Grove that truely eliminate the florist from the loop. Kudos to Teleflora for this, we'll keep an eye on it...

Ellen, exactly. No florist should rely on incoming orders to base their business on, and in fact many may not have a need for any type of wire service at all. Local, direct customer contact will generate the best potential growth for any florist.

Perhaps we,the florists should not rely on wire service orders, cultivate your local customers...get a site on the internet, get an 800 number....you can survive with out a wire service...reconnect with your local customer.
