While over 400,000 Americans become ill from antibiotic-resistant bacteria in food products each year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reviewed fewer than 10 percent of antibiotics to assess their risks of creating resistant "superbugs," according to an investigation by Reuters. Despite the lack of clarity over the safety of many antibiotics used in animals, major poultry companies continue to use them.
