This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. AIX System Engineer 1513103 Job Description We are looking for an AIX System Engineer to support our client EUMETSAT. You will be part of the Computer Systems Management team, and shall provide support to all Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the AIX Linux based ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. Your tasks shall include installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and performance tuning of Hardware HW and Software SW installations, ensuring compatibility between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation of HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures liaise with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Perform administration and installation of databases administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance on system related matters implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations. Required Skills and Experience In addition to having a university degree in computer science or equivalent, you shall have extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. You shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the AIX operating systems. Proven knowledge and at least 3 years handson experience with the following is mandatory on Power Systems very good experience on operating systems AIX 6.1 7.1 and IBM virtualization, including MicroPartitioning, LPAR, VIOS administration and configuration of IBM pSeries using HMC and AMM IT System design skills definition, implementation, testing and documentation of endtoend system changes preparation of technical documentation in English in a complete and clear manner. Desirable Skills and Experience In addition, experience in the installation, administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be considered as an advantage Distributed File System GPFS high availability software IBM PowerHA PowerVC Experience with the monitoring tools based on Nagios VMWare Virtualization It is also an advantage if you can carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks.
