ACS recently established German subsidiary ACSD aims at better serving our customers based in Darmstadt area. ACS is looking for a AIX Linux Engineer to work at EUMETSAT. ACS offers Pleasant, international working environment at customer site Very competitive salary Attractive benefit package tailored on specific exigencies Training and personal growth within ACS group Full support from a high technology company Full support for relocation to Darmstadt TASKS The AIX Linux Engineer shall work in the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division Computer and Storage Management team, supporting the different phases of computer system infrastructures. As a member of the Computer Systems Management team, the person shall provide support to all Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the AIX Linux based ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. The person shall perform the following tasks installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and performance of Hardware HW and Software SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration and installation of databases administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations. In the performance of the activities, the person shall apply the relevant change control and maintenance procedures. SKILLS In addition to having a university degree in computer science or equivalent, the person shall have extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The person shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the AIX operating systems, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks. Proven knowledge and at least 3 years handson experience with the following is mandatory on Power Systems AIX 6.1 7.1 on x86 Systems RedHat or SLES on IBM pSeries, Bladecenters very good experience on IBM virtualization, including MicroPartitioning, LPAR, VIOS administration and configuration of IBM pSeries, Bladecenters using HMC and AMM high availability software IBM PowerHA IT System design skills definition, implementation, testing and documentation of endtoend system changes preparation of technical documentation in English in a complete and clear manner. In addition, experience in the installation, administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be considered as an advantage Cluster File System GPFS Experience with the monitoring tool Nagios VMWare Virtualization RAID arrays EMC SAN Brocade Backup and recovery systems It is also an advantage if the person can carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills together with the ability to effectively cooperate within the team and with internal customers. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the person must be able to work effectively in this language and have a basic knowledge of the other, together with good communication skills. Applicants must be EU national or holder of a valid work permit for Germany.
