ASX breaks through 5000 in energy and bank boost

The Australian sharemarket broke through the crucial 5000 mark on Wednesday morning, fuelled by a strong rally in energy and banking stocks. At 12:45pm Sydney time, the S&P/ASX 200 index was sitting at 5010 points, up 1.7 per cent.
