American Trucking Associations and Minnesota Trucking Association petitioned Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to conduct pilot program. In addition to examining potential benefits of sleeper berth flexibility for professional truck drivers, pilot project will look how technological improvements promote driver alertness/safety. According to Minnesota Trucking Association's John Hausladen, letting drivers break up 10 hr off-duty period into 2 shorter periods would be beneficial.
