Although the fourth year of California's historic drought is continuing to hit local farmers and nursery workers hard, the 2014 San Mateo County Agricultural Crop Report shows production values slightly increased to boast a nearly $152 million industry. The 5.9 percent increase since 2013 is primarily due to floral and nursery crops grown indoors, a major commodity in the county that was valued at $94.5 million, according to the report.
