(Telecompaper) Alcatel-Lucent has won a contract of undisclosed value to to deploy an 8,000 km, 100G submarine cable called the Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) cable connecting Oman, UAE, India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The BBG consortium comprises Vodafone, Dialog Axiata, Etisalat, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Omantel and Telekom Malaysia. The cable is expected to start operating commercially by the end of 2014 and will be lit as 100G at launch.
