Chipmakers are enjoying rapid sales growth as watches, cars and homes join smartphones, tablets and other consumer electronics that run on semiconductors. Worldwide chip sales rose 8% and reached a quarterly record of $87 billion in Q3 , according to the Semiconductor Industry Association.
