Apple announces iOS 9, available now for developers

2015-06-08 23:24:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Apple announced iOS 9 at WWDC15, featuring a smarter Siri, public transit directions in Maps, better multitasking on iPads and other new integrated apps, TechRadar reports. It is available to developers immediately ahead of public beta in July and a free upgrade in the autumn when it is expected to launch with the new iPhone. Apple has made this update compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices currently running iOS 9. Siri has been upgraded to understand context the way Google Now does. It can also suggest appointments to add to the calendar and pull up photos based on time and location when asking. In the first major upgrade since 2013, the Apple Maps app includes public transit directions, including support directions for 300 Chinese cities. New York, San Francisco, Toronto, London, Paris and Berlin are expected to be the first cities with public transit directions. With iOS9, iPads will be able to handle bigger productivity tasks with three ways to view multitasking windows. A picture-in-picture mode puts FaceTime calls and videos in the corner of the display by pressing the home button. Any other app can be used while watching the video.
