NEWFANE, Vermont - Anyone who has driven north on Interstate 91 in Vermont has seen the rocky cliffs that loom above the pavement in some places with meshing used to hold rocks from falling onto the highway. As Vermont author Archer Mayor 's latest novel begins, hanging from one of these cliffs is a woman's body with a homophobic slur carved into it.
