Main responsibilities In the framework of the Boundarylayer Air Qualityanalysis Using Network of INstruments BAQUNIN project, the postholder will join the BAQUNIN team, directly responding to the BAQUNIN Contract Manager and Project Manager. The working activities will covers different aspects of the BAQUNIN operations, from running remote sensing instruments, to scientific SW developments, to production of scientific publications. We are looking for a bright, young, postdoc like scientist, with job location colocated with Atmospheric Physics Laboratory, Physics Department of University Sapienza in Rome Italy. The Atmospheric Scientist will perform the following activities, under the direction and guidelines of the BAQUNIN Work Package leader and Project Manager Processing, Quality Control QC, formatting and analysis of insitu data generated by BAQUNIN instruments Produce scientific SW for the inversion of data, with focus on LIDAR retrieval algorithms Maintain and operate ground based remote sensing BAQUNIN instruments Create SW for data QA and format harmonisation Participate in measurement campaigns involving BAQUNIN instruments Create SW tools for the synergistic analysis of ground based data products Contribute to the writing of scientific papers and presentations in international conferences Attendance to European progress meeting or conferences Support the preparation of periodical project status reports and technical notes Ideal candidate Successful applicants should have a high level of selfmotivation, the capability to work effectively in a team and autonomously, and have excellent organisation skills. A strong proactive attitude is required in identifying problems and proposing solutions. Mandatory knowledge and experience requisites are University degree, or equivalent, in atmospheric physics or geophysics or related discipline. Good and practical knowledge of Lidar and Pandora instrumentation. Good knowledge of dynamics and physics in the atmosphere with list of publication. Development of tools for analysis and conversion of large set of data and data visualization. SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES Mandatory requisites are Handson experience with atmospheric validation methods and scientific analysis of in situ data Experience with multiwavelenght lidar being an advantage Good experience in the scientific exploitation of atmospheric data analysis Good knowledge of ground based atmospheric remote sensing instrumentation Good oral and written communication Spatial, temporal and other statistical analyses of EO data Scientific publication and reporting including oral presentations of results Good Working proficiency in English. Good scientific programming skills e.g. Matlab, IDL, C, Pyton or Fortran In addition, the candidate shall have Attitude to follow guidelines and to require minimum supervision, proactively requesting help when needed. Ability to plan and report and to work to deadline. Availability to travel to attend meetings. Additional assets Experience with Atmospheric Earth Observation Satellite mission data.
