Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations The European Space Agency is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women POST Avionics Engineer in the ISS System Development Unit, Development and Future Projects Division, ISS Programme and Exploration Department, Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations. This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder reports directly to the Head of the ISS System Development Unit and is responsible for avionics aspects related to the enhancement, evolution and sustaining engineering of the ESA systems at the International Space Station. Specific duties will include defining and implementing the enhancement and evolution activities related to the Columbus system and equipment in the avionics area leading the procurement of Columbus avionics spares existing or of new design. Performing necessary equipment software upgrades supporting the realtime resolution of onorbit issues associated to the Columbus system and avionics equipment. When possible, performing offline troubleshooting for onorbit Columbus system and avionics equipment which has been declared nonoperational performing repairs of the Columbus system and avionics equipment leading the execution of the technical activities related to the ISS lifetime extension for the avionics aspects providing support to the Class 2 Payload integration for items interfacing directly with the system in the avionics area overseeing the development of the avionics aspects of the communications terminal of the Columbus Communications enhancement system service internal and external portions supporting the ESA ISS Engineering Board, the Mission Management Team MMT, the JointMMT, and the IOT JointEngineering Control Board, as required supporting the HSOID Division in other tasks, as required. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in physics or engineering. A thorough knowledge of human space flight systems and of the Space Station programme is also essential. Previous experience with international cooperation will be an asset. A high degree of knowledge and experience in the following areas is desirable avionics, including communications aspects the Columbus systems and equipment Space Station operations and integration processes the interaction of the Columbus Systems with the rest of the Space Station. The post requires candidates to be systemminded and to have a resultoriented approach. They should have the ability to work in a highly complex project environment, as well as have a strong capacity for planning and organising tasks. They should possess good communications skills and the capability of coordinating activities with groups spread across different sites. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
