BIPT cuts cable wholesale access fees

2015-05-28 09:14:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Belgian regulator BIPT proposed a reduction in the fees for wholesale access to the Telenet, Coditel and Brutele cable networks. The basic price will drop by around 34 percent, from EUR 29.90 per month to EUR 19.70. This offers access to a triple-play including TV services, but a range of extra services was taken out of the package, such as content rights and the set-top box. Mobistar, which is the only provider to start testing the wholesale cable offer, has repeatedly called for a reduction in the wholesale rates in order to make the resale viable. Opening up the cable networks to competition is expected to drive an increase in residential offers in Belgium, where the market has been dominated by incumbent Proximus and the cable operators Telenet and Voo. Telenet said it's disappointed with the new rates from BIPT and plans to challenge the decision, De Tijd reported.
