BMW has announced that it will release plug-in hybrid versions of all its existing models, starting with the 3 Series. This is certainly an interesting move: So far, the world's car makers have been fairly reticent in their ever-so-gradual moves toward smaller engines and lower carbon emissions -- now, we have one of the world's biggest motor groups announcing by far the biggest push yet into battery-powered vehicles.
