Brazil adds almost 20 mln new mobile lines in 2012

(Telecompaper) Brazil ended 2012 with 261.78 million active mobile lines. In the year 19.54 million new lines were added, equal to growth of 8.07 percent in the subscriber base, according to sector regulator Anatel. The mobile penetration rate stood at 132.78 percent at year-end. In December, 80.53 percent of the lines were prepaid (210.82 million) and 19.47 percent were postpaid (50.96 million). In terms of market share, Vivo continued to lead with 76.1 million customers (29.08% market share), followed by TIM Brasil with 70.3 million (26.87%), Claro Brasil with 65.2 million (24.92%) and Oi with 49.2 million (18.81%).
