For a city that prides itself on being fast-moving and cutting-edge, New York has remarkably slow Internet connections outside Wall Street and midtown, thanks to the high cost of running fiber-optic cable beneath busy streets. That bottleneck, however, may be loosening for the thousands of commercial buildings just in Manhattan - about 90% of the 13,000 total - that are not wired with business-class broadband.
