Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europes number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy has arisen for a Business Development Manager Earth Observation Services with Airbus Defence and Space in Farnborough. The successful candidate will be responsible to support the growth and sustainability of the Airbus DS GeoIntelligence business. The scope of the BDM activities includes identification and justification of new business opportunities, management of the endtoend bidding process and support for the Head of Institutional Relations with business strategy and the preparation and maintenance of business cases and models. The role also involves supporting activities andor projects to develop and implement new Earth Observationenabled solutions and services. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To input to the strategy for the space department. To secure orders in line with the budget and strategy. To provide an understanding of European and UK Institutional funding programmes and to maintain this understanding as the various programmes evolve. To build relationships with key customer contacts. To create customer awareness of Airbus DS Geointelligence capability and strengths. To represent Airbus DS Geointelligence in a positive manner with existing and potential customers and to influence customers to choose Airbus DS Geo intelligence. To identify and acquire intelligence relating to potential opportunities. To identify and build relationships with potential partners. To identify and acquire knowledge about competitors. To support marketing initiatives related to the Space department strategy. To proactively monitor relevant Institutional portals and websites for notices and communications relating to potential business opportunities. To proactively manage and monitor the status of relevant business opportunities and regularly update the opportunity database to support the continued success and coherence of the Space business strategy. To lead the prosecution of relevant opportunities that meets the strategy. To manage the endtoend bidding process. To participate in negotiation procedures if required for any successful tenders, ensuring the best possible balance is struck between customer expectations and Airbus DS priorities and to ensure a successful contract kickoff. To work with other BDM colleagues and Geointelligence colleagues to ensure the maintenance of a focused, committed and coherent approach to Space BD. To keep the Head of Institutional Relations up to date concerning relevant business opportunities, preparing business cases to support investment and strategy, where relevant. To consider EO and GISrelated business and user requirements to support the preparation of detailed specifications for EOenabled service solutions. To provide expertise in Earth Observation and Geographic Information Systems to support application development within Airbus DS. To support Airbus DS technical staff in the preparation of business plans andor business cases. To provide a leading role within technical project work within European and National project frameworks as appropriate. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience Geoinformation, Earth Observation experience is mandatory for this position, Good understanding of Earth Observation data and associated application potential, Experience managing complex bid preparation processes, Knowledge of European and UK Institutional bodies and programmes, Understanding of financial aspects of projects, bids and business cases, Experience managing external customer relationship. Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels, Ability to think outside of the box to identify innovative and feasible solutionservice options, Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
