Astrium Services Government Communications is the worlds leading commercial provider of militarygrade satellite communications. EADS the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the worlds largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and EADS Astrium, the European leader in space programmes from Ariane to Galileo. Government Communications is the prime contractor for the Skynet 5 contract with the UK Ministry of Defence, signed in October 2003, valued at 3.6bn. The programme provides mobile voice, video, internet and broadcast communications for the UK armed forces, as well as a range of other Government departments and agencies. GC own, manage and operate the Skynet 5 satellite system, and are responsible for delivering the service, controlling the satellite, managing the network and implementing all upgrades throughout its life. From the outset GC designed Skynet 5 to be large enough and capable enough to provide military satellite services to a range of other countries and organisations. These include NATO and the armed forces of the Netherlands, Portugal, Canada, France and Germany. A vacancy has arisen for a Business Development Manager Terminals Products with Astrium Services in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be responsible for Identifying, developing, managing and securing order intake in line with the Operations Plan for the TP Air and Naval product range and scope of activities supplied by the TP entity that include development, supply and support. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows In consultation with the Product Managers and the RD Manager, develop and win profitable business by identifying opportunities, influencing customer requirements and leading successful sales campaigns including the creation of sales and capture plans for target prospects and market segments. Ensure that the CRM system is populated and maintained to reflect current positions and developments. Ownership of the sales process on behalf of TP and manage the sales process within defined Company procedures, e.g. phase review process, from the influencing stage through to prospect generation, bid stages and contract signing, working with a multidisciplinary team including engineering, financial and commercial functions. Liaise and coordinate with wider Government Communications sales team to promote the T P product line including T P contribution to system sales. Coordination of sales campaigns with other EADS and Astrium divisions, overseas offices and UKTI exDESO. Participation in general sales marketing activities including trade exhibitions, conferences, equipment demonstrations etc. The successful candidate will have the following experienceskills Demonstrable record in wining high value UK or export business in relevant sectors and segments. Experienced in working in complex bidding and workshare arrangements inclusive of Joint developments and other Strategic relationship with Third Parties Ability to interact at senior level within foreign Military and Government organisations. Planning and leadership of complex sales campaigns including understanding and influencing customer requirements. Knowledge of offset and indigenous industrial requirements and development of offset packages. Ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams within the company to develop winning bids. Highly organised and efficient people management skills. Knowledge of communications, including satcom, would be desirable, but not a prerequisite. Desirable experience High value systems sales in the military, telecommunications, aerospace or industrial sectors. Consideration would be given to exceptional candidates from an Armed Forces or MoD background with some commercial experience.
