Camtel secures mobile licence

2014-09-29 09:38:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) has obtained a 15-year fixed and mobile licence. Camtel will continue to hold a monopoly in fixed services. It offers both wireline and CDMA-based fixed wireless, sold under the CTPhone brand. Camtel will now be able to build and operate a mobile network, which will make it the country's fourth mobile operator. CEO David Nkoto Emane said at the signing ceremony that the licence allows the operator to raise funds from banks, adding that it will start with 2G and 3G services. He did not indicate a timeframe. The mobile service will be offered through Cameroon Mobile Telecommunications, a subsidiary created in 2006.
