The head of the ACARA car dealership association has made it clear that while he welcomed the move to increase the threshold to charge the luxury tax for cars, the 15 percent increase would "not resolve" the reduced demand for top-of-the-line models. The government announced the 15 percent increase on December 31, 2014 and according to Rubn Beato, ACARA secretary-general, the tax will still be applicable on the sales of "premium imported cars" as they include expensive technology that keeps them above the 274,400-peso threshold, up from the previous 238,600 peso- threshold.
