Claro, Tigo to bid for Paraguay 4G spectrum

2015-12-07 11:10:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Paraguay's telecoms regulator Conatel has announced that the only two operators to submit bids for frequencies in the 4G spectrum were Claro (America Movil) and Tigo (Millicom) after Personal (Telecom Italia) decided against making an offer. Conatel launched its long-delayed 4G auction in October, having drawn criticism from operators and the GSMA over the terms of the licences and the excessively high basic cost, with a minimum of USD 15 million payable for each 5+5 MHz block. A total of six blocks are available in the 1,700-2100 MHz (AWS) band and the concessions will be granted for a period of five years. Conatel is set to release spectrum for LTE use in the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands once it has completed its AWS auction.
