Position Reference 947 The ESA Climate Office acts as the focal point for ESAs climaterelated activities and represents ESAs and its Member States climaterelated interests on several international organisations and working groups and is an observer to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC since 2019. In March 2021, ESA and the World Meteorological Organisation WMO signed an agreement concerning WCRPs CMIPIPO. The World Climate Research Programme WCRP, is jointly sponsored by the World Meteorological Organisation WMO, the International Science Council ISC and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission IOC of UNESCO. The CoupledModel Intercomparison Project CMIP provides the focal point for leading national and international entities in climate modelling and is the main resource for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC assessment of climate projections. Moreover, CMIP is a major user of EObased climate observations for model development, assimilation and evaluation. In hosting the CMIP International Project Office ESA confirms its longterm strategic vision into supporting climate science and demonstrating European leadership in climate modelling. It will provide substantial benefits to ESAs current and future climate activities, by strengthening the use of EObased climate observations by the climate modelling community. RHEA is currently looking for a talented Science and Communications Officer to work in close coordination with the CMIPIPO Director. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Providing scientific support to the CMIP international project office. Taking the lead in communication and organisation matters, including To coordinate CMIP scientific communication and outreach including communicating simulation protocols, setups, CMIP science questions context and CMIP model results. To organise meetings, workshops, conferences, training sessions and other activities relevant to CMIP. To prepare CMIP administrative reports, correspondence, publications. To ensure CMIP is highly visible as a WCRP brand via appropriate communication and outreach tools. To coordinate CMIP administrative, communication and outreach activities. To set up, develop and provide oversight and maintenance of a CMIP website. Skills and Experience The following skills would be mandatory Masters in physics or Earth science, or any other appropriate scientific field, with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Experience in science communication and outreach. Expertise in working in an international environment. Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be mandatory Background in climate science. Familiarity with CMIP.
