New research in the journal Nature says the release of huge reserves of methane from permafrost is an economic time bomb if nothing is done to mitigate the unprecedented melting.
Scientists estimate the release could lead to the global mean temperature rising by more than two degrees between 15 and 35 years earlier than expected.
