While millions across the country fired up charcoal grills over Memorial Day weekend, coal producing firms around Alabama continued to take a beating. Hoover-based Walter Energy Inc. is not the only American coal producer reeling from the economic downturn, but the state's 13th largest publicly-traded company did recently announce the possibility of up to 370 layoffs across its Alabama footprint.
