(Telecompaper) Colombia had 5.5 million broadband connections at the end of June, up 10 percent from December 2012 and 23.6 percent higher than a year earlier, reports Portafolio. The national business daily cites data from Cisco Barometer, which found that 53.7 percent of Colombia's fixed broadband connections offered peak download speeds of over 2 Mbps. Projections indicate that broadband connections will reach 10.3 million by 2017, 15.3 percent of which will be mobile and 68.7 percent fixed. Colombia has five broadband operators, namely Avantel, Claro, DirecTV, ETB-Tigo and Movistar.
