Copernicus System Interfaces Engineer Location Darmstadt, Germany EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisations Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide. EUMETSAT will also operate on behalf of the European Union Copernicus satellites and instruments Sentinel3, Sentinel4, Sentinel5 and Sentinel6 to provide data and support services to the Copernicus marine, atmospheric composition and climate change monitoring information services and to Copernicus users. As an intergovernmental European Organisation, EUMETSAT has 30 Member States Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Duration of Initial Contract The initial contract will be of 4 years duration. The appointment may be extended, subject to programme requirements and individual performance. Subsequent contracts may have a maximum duration of 5 years at each review. Please note that appointment is subject to the signature of the Copernicus Delegation Agreement between EUMETSAT and the European Commission foreseen in 2014. Background Within the Competence Area for Infrastructure Engineering Maintenance of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division GSI, the Copernicus System Interfaces Engineer shall be responsible for the ground segment system engineering aspects related to the maintenance and evolutions of the EUMETSAT Copernicus ground segment during the operations phase. This includes system engineering for major evolutions of the operational ground segment, the maintenance of related system level architectural design documents and Interface Control Documents. The post holder shall also be responsible for the EUMETSAT Copernicus ground segment Integration, Verification Validation IVV activities at the level of test plan definition, test specification and test activities coordination. Duties The main duties of the post will be to Perform technical analysis at system architecture and specification level for system evolutions or major upgrades of the Copernicus Ground Segment, in order to ensure coherence and compatibility with other ongoing developments and identify the impact on baseline technical documentation Maintain the EUMETSAT Copernicus ground system architecture and interfaces coherence Define the IVV testing approach for major evolutions of the EUMETSAT Copernicus Ground Segment and support the installation and integration of new systems. Prepare and coordinate the related testing activities Support the definition and maintenance of Copernicus ground segment interfaces Maintain an uptodate set of Interface Control Documents, in coordination with and with support of the other maintenance and engineering teams Enforce the implementation of the working practices regarding implementation of system evolutions, baseline system documentation and drawings Participate actively in the coordination of all the technical issues and the promotion of system awareness across the different Copernicus teams accomplishing synergisticreference architectures technologies, by dynamically supporting the different System designs Deputise for the GSI System Engineering Team Leader. Qualifications University Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical engineering discipline. Skills and Experience Proven experience in the following fields is required Development, commissioning and maintenance of operational ground segments systems and infrastructure, preferably for remote sensing systems System Engineering and IVV for the development of major upgrades for operational ground systems operated in a 247 environment Development of new ground segments which are designed and developed with large reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements Interfaces requirements definition, engineering and test, including the generation and maintenance of Interface Control Documents, with support of tools System requirements management and functionalarchitectural modelling, with support of tools Configuration change management. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have a working knowledge of French. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,180 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
