One of the last vestiges of a global can manufacturing firm founded in Baltimore more than 100 years ago plans to end operations in Essex, laying off 47 workers. Crown Cork & Seal USA Inc.'s closure on Citation Road ends the company's presence in Baltimore, though the Philadelphia-based firm still has a facility in Belcamp in Harford County.
