DEQ has little clout in Ashland rail yard cleanup Updated at

The state Department of Environmental Quality has responded to a series of questions from the city of Ashland regarding the cleanup of more than 20 acres of Union Pacific Railroad property, and the results are not encouraging for those hoping to see a full cleanup of the site. In a five-page response to a set of questions posed by the city, the DEQ says it has little control over much of the cleanup process provided UPRR adheres to conditions outlined in a record of decision from 2001.
