Daimler Q1 earnings nearly double on new models

German automaker Daimler AG credited strong demand for its Mercedes-Benz luxury cars across major markets for a near-doubling in its first quarter profits. Daimler said Tuesday that its net profit during the period spiked to 2.05 billion euros from 1.086 billion in the same quarter a year ago.
