When reality show producer Mark Burnett called FUBU founder Daymond John in 2008 to ask him if he wanted to be an investor on his upcoming show "Shark Tank," John had previously only worked within the fashion business and saw the opportunity as the perfect way to not only promote his existing brands but diversify his portfolio. John had invested in around 10 clothing brands before joining the show, but he was hardly a seasoned angel investor.
