Delta to trial homespots

2014-06-12 16:42:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Dutch cable operator Delta will start testing homespots from the end of July. The spots will provide multimedia customers with access to wireless internet. Trials will start in Vlissingen and likely run for a few weeks, multimedia product management manager Luuck Menger said during the recent Telecompaper Connected 2014 event. Delta's homespots will operate along the same principle as those of UPC and Ziggo, whose customers share access connection with other customers. Delta added that preparations for the trials were at an advanced stage, but that a pilot group had not yet been formed. The company already offers access to Wi-Fi networks, for tourists in 115 Zeeland resort locations. Research from Telecompaper late last year showed that 68 percent of Dutch consumers use outside Wi-Fi, compared to 58 percent in December 2012. Menger declined to elaborate further on Delta's connected strategy except to say that its cornerstone lay in its strong regional presence, as illustrated by the 100,000 unique visitors per day registered on the company's ZeelandNet.
