The German Aerospace Center Deutsches Zentrum fr Luft und Raumfahrt e.V. DLR conducts research and technology development in the fields of aeronautics, space, transport, energy, security and digitalisation. The German Space Agency at DLR plans and implements national space activities on behalf of the German Federal Government. Two DLR project management agencies oversee funding programmes and support technology transfer. The climate, mobility and technology are changing globally. DLR uses the expertise of its 10,000 employees at 55 institutes and facilities across 30 locations to develop solutions to the challenges in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy and transport. In this way, we contribute to strengthening Germany as a prime location for expertise and industry. As a research institution, DLR has revenues in excess of one billion euro. In addition, as a space agency and project management organisation, it manages an annual budget of approximately three billion euro. DLR is primarily financed by the German Federal Government and the nations constituent states. It is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. Deputy Board Member fmd Space As a Deputy Board Member you will be responsible for your area of expertise and, together with the Executive Board, form the extended Executive Board. You will report to the Chair of the Executive Board, both professionally and disciplinarily. As a Deputy Board Member, your task is to effectively shape your division within DLRs overall synergetic context. You will develop strategies for your division and represent these and any crosssectoral topics internally and externally. You will coordinate DLRs contributions to major national and international projects and initiatives and represent DLR on committees and commissions. The Deputy Board Members also support the Chair of the Executive Board in the development and management of the research institutes and facilities and support the Member of the Executive Board for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Scientific Infrastructure in the promotion and transfer of research results into commercial applications. There is also close coordination and cooperation with the German Space Agency at DLR, particularly in the area of spaceflight. This area of responsibility requires a person with relevant experience in senior positions in research management, as well as experience in business and industry and extensive expertise in the relevant field. They must combine strategic creative ability with practical persuasiveness, the ability to integrate and assert themselves, and the willingness to cooperate. Proven management skills and an excellent scientific ideally engineering qualification in the field of space technology is a prerequisite. A doctorate and German and English proficiency are required. The appointment will be for a period of five years renewable. Willingness to undergo a security clearance in accordance with the Security Clearance Act 8 ff SG is a prerequisite for application.
