Deutsche Telekom unveils hybrid DSL-LTE home router
2014-09-05 10:18:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom has unveiled a new hybrid router that uses both the DSL and LTE networks to boost bandwidth. The company claims a world first with the Speedport Hybrid router unveiled at the Ifa trade show in Berlin. The operator said the combination of DSL and LTE will enable fast internet access even in areas with low coverage. The router prioritizes the fluctuation-free DSL line for data transfer and uses additional mobile bandwidth when needed to enhance speeds. The roll-out of the Hybrid Speedport will start in Germany this fall across the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Berlin. The hybrid connection will be available across the entire country starting spring 2015. Use of the new technology requires availability of DSL and LTE as well as a hybrid-capable router. Telekom will initially offer the technology for internet only and late in 2015 expand it to include IPTV services. Customers can sign up already to order the service online.
