A role exists for a dedicated Test Engineer to support battery development, testing and qualification activities for use in Space. Working within the Product Development Team to deliver project critical activities, the successful candidate will support all aspects of battery testing, evaluation and qualification of new technologies to enable the business to remain a technology leader in the Space industry. The work will be strongly focussed on running and organising tests which support the development activities of the business. In addition, it will also include detailed review, analysis and evaluation of results obtained. This work builds towards enhancement of existing performance simulation models used by the business to allow accurate prediction of operation over years of use in the severe environment of space. In addition you will be selfmotivated and an enthusiastic teamplayer who is diligent and shows a high level of attention to detail in the running of critical test activities. Key Aspects of the Role Hands on battery testing including Electrical battery testing lifetesting and performance characterisation using commercial test systems Environmental testing vibration, thermal vacuum and cycling Test module and associated harness wiring and assembly Test setup, validation and commissioning Cell DPA Destructive Parts Analysis and physical testing Organisation of testing to ensure maximum efficiency of work progress Data review and preliminary analysis to validate outputs of testing Troubleshooting and problem solving through standard electrical diagnostic test techniques Preparing detailed written plans and procedures from top level test requirement specifications Analysis of test results using Microsoft Excel and writing technical reports Essential Skills and Qualifications Handson skills for electrical and physical testing including familiarity with standard electrical measurement and diagnostic techniques Degree level qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline or several years experience in a related role of electrical testing Experienced in Microsoft Office products for data analysis, test running and organising, results presentation and reporting Good written and verbal communication Training Due to the specialist nature of the role, training will be provided to enable development of the individual in specific aspects of battery testing and environmental qualification for space. However, it is expected that the candidate will possess high level of existing familiarity with handson test work as a basis on which to build. Desireable Skills Any existing familiarity with battery or electrochemical systems will be of benefit to the role, as will knowledge of vibration and thermal vacuum systems. Advanced experience using Excel or similar commercial spreadsheet tools, including macro generation or scripting is also desirable for results data processing. Personal Skills Good interpersonal skills Selfmotivated to meet objectives Methodical approach to testing to maintain traceability, avoid errors and validate testing performed Ability to work both alone and in teams as required by the individual task Strong time management skills to allow independent, optimised organisation of work, managing large arrays of simultaneous test activities Flexible working approach to meet the demanding timescales at critical periods of work Strong problem solving ability to diagnose and rectify faults
