Signed into law by President Barack Obama on January 14, 2013, Drywall Safety Act of 2012 (PL 112-266) cites ASTM International standard C1264-11, Specification for Sampling, Inspection, Rejection, Certification, Packaging, Marking, Shipping, Handling and Storage of Gypsum Panel Products. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) chairman Inez Tenenbaum claimed noted collaboration with ASTM and anticipated future work with ASTM to ensure speedy adoption of drywall content standard.
