EC plans copyright reforms to support online video, press

2016-09-14 12:32:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The European Commission has presented its proposal for reforming copyright rules in the EU. In his 'State of the Union' address to parliament, EC President Jean-Claude Juncker outlined three priorities for the reform, as part of the Digital Single Market plan. This includes giving consumers the right to use their subscriptions to online video or music services in any EU country. To make that happen, broadcasters and providers need to be able to negotiate international rights with content producers. In addition, content producers such as newspapers and publishers should have a stronger position vis-a-vis online aggregators distributing their output.
