Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced EEE Component Engineer to work in the Quality Assurance Department at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to ESAESTECs Components Standardization and Qualification Section within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. The quality of the EEE components used on a spacecraft is a determining factor for their reliable operation and performance throughout the mission life. It is therefore essential to ensure that all space components are sufficiently robust to endure the environmental and application stress they encounter. The sections role is evaluation of component properties and behaviour under the known usage conditions in space, which are very different from terrestrial applications, such as a harsh radiation environment and very high reliability requirements. The sector also contributes to space component qualification and standardization programmes in the context of the European Space Components Coordination ESCC work group which has been established with the objective of harmonising the efforts in this area by ESA, European national and international public space organisations, the component manufacturers, and the user industries. The activities to be performed cover Electrical characterisation and measurements over temperature range digital, analog, microwave. Surface analysis Scanning Electron Microscope SEM, Energy Dispersive Analysis EDA by XRay, Wavelength Dispersive Analysis WDA by XRay, Focussed Ions Beam Milling FIBM and deposition, Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis ESCALAB, Optical Techniques, Raman Spectroscopy. Thermography infrared microscopy. Chemical processing Potting, Etching, Sectioning. Radiation effects Support to irradiation test campaigns in terms of HW and SW test setup preparation and verification for TID by Gammabeam Co60 and XRay, Single Event Effects by Californium and Heavy Ion beams, Displacement Damage, and emerging methods. Reliability testing environmental, life tests, etc. Thermal, mechanical, Partial Impact Noise Detection PIND, Leak testing, Bond strength, Electrostatic Discharge ESD, Burnin. Use of the laboratories own analysis equipment and of other internalexternal facilities to perform Failure Analysis and evaluation task for component qualification. Design and implementation of adapted test setups in HW and SW. Proficiency in reporting on tasks and analysis results in English Language. Support to ISO accreditation certification activities. Support to departmental QMS activities within the scope of the specific tasks. In addition, you will be required to support auditing of component manufacturers and engineering support to the ESCC standardization and qualification program. This is a fulltime position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The requested start of work is midApril 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate shall have A PhD or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related specialization. At least 4 years relevant industrial working experience. A demonstrated background and experience in EEE component technologies in terms of constituent materials, production technology, test equipment, test tools, test methods. Experience with laboratory techniques, laboratory equipment, laboratory work and procedures including common health and safety regulations. Knowledge of applicable standards in the domain industrial and standardisation bodies. Specific proficiency in at least 4 of the following fields Passive Components Discrete Semiconductors for RF and nonRF Complex Microcircuits for Digital, Analog, Mixed Signal and Microwave Hybrid Technology Micropackaging Optoelectronics Familiarity with ISO standards and quality management would be useful. Prior experience with space specific effects on EEE components and their analysis would be a distinct advantage. What can Terma Offer?
