For our activities in ESTEC, we are currently looking for an EGSE Software Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities Within the EGSE and Ground Systems Section, support is provided to the Science Operations Centres SOCs of the current and future ESA planetary missions, such as Rosetta, BepiColombo, Solar Orbiter, ExoMars 2016 and JUICE. This support includes the development of planning and simulation tools and in particular of MAPPS, which in use by the MarsExpress and VenusExpress missions and is currently being adapted for use by the Rosetta mission. The key person will be assigned in a small team, to contribute to evolution and the maintenance of the MAPPS software, as well as to provide firstline support to the SOCs mission planners and scientific users, based at ESAC Madrid. The key person will be assigned to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division and shall function as an integrated team member of the development team, in charge of the following initial tasks Implementation of new MAPPS features, especially in the area of the Graphical User Interface, but also in backend processing software. Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Further evolution of the test software, e.g. extending the test cases to cover new features and improving the level of automation. Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed also considering the long lifetime of the software. Provide firstline user support e.g. helping the user configuring and using any new features, analysing potential bugs and providing fixes. Technical expert support to EGSE Procurement. Support SGEO, GAL, MTG, ESMO projects in the area of EGSE procurement. Ensuring general Support Integrating industrial elements in the EGSE reference facility and verifying their functioning in end to end scenarios. Developing and performing end to end verification and validation tests including e.g. populating EGSE reference facility database, developing test procedures. Identifying, isolating and fixing software problems. Maintaining an EGSE software libraryconfiguration managementlab website. Providing technical support to projects on specific issues related to EGSEs and their utilisation including solving problems. Evaluate needs and generate requirements for enhancements. Requirements The key person shall have a university degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline and proven experience in the following areas Software engineering and objectoriented programming Programming languages CC andor others Graphical User Interface programming Qt toolkit, others Software Engineering Standards such as the ECSSEST40C Software bug reporting systems e.g. Mantis, JIRA, etc. Software versioning systems, such as CVS, SVN and GIT Windows and Linux, others Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering will be an asset Experience with operational software development will be an advantage. The key person shall be able to function as part of a team. Because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required. The support may require travels to the ESAESAC, Madrid facility for the integration of the product into the Science Operation Center. Further it may be required for periods during critical mission phases to perform the user support directly at the users premises ESA, Madrid.
