According to U.S. EPA's annual Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) report, releases of toxic chemicals decreased 12% from 2011–2012. This includes 8% decline in total toxic air releases due to reductions in hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions. Data on 2012 shows 3.63 billion lb of toxic chemicals were disposed of or otherwise released into environment through air, water, and land.
