With 1.700 employees worldwide, the CS Group is a leading IT company in France and in Germany, and a prime contractor in designing, integrating and operating mission critical systems. It has now been over 30 years that comprehensive CS solutions for space systems and applications, both on the ground and in space, have been part and parcel of this odyssey. The applicant shall work in the Operations and User Services Department of our customer as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. Scope The activities for this consultancy will include scientific aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. The consultant will work at EUMETSAT Headquarters, located in Darmstadt, Germany. The tasks and responsibilities will include Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial calibrationvalidation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams Participation in reviews. The support will involve close crossdivisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines system engineering, instruments, operations, science. Profile Scientific consultancy will be sought in the areas of 1.Optical imaging or 2.Microwave imaging or 3.Microwave sounding or 4.Scatterometry. The specific area of the key person is mentioned in Article 1.1 of the Contract. The consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum level of supervision. The consultant shall have the following experience and background University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Good interpersonal skills in support of team work The following experience would be an additional asset Experience in understanding and writing requirements Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Experience with calibration and product validation methods Knowledge in radiative transfer. Fluency in English is mandatory.
