Effort to replace Milledge Avenue tree canopy begins on Arbor Day

Decades from now, the broad arch of trees that lined South Milledge Avenue from Five Points to West Broad Street through a good portion of the last century will once again be in evidence, the result of work begun along the street this week as the community celebrated Arbor Day. As part of the local observance, representatives of Athens-Clarke County's Community Tree Council and Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful presided over the Friday planting of four of the 20 trees obtained with a $5,000 grant from Keep America Beautiful and United Parcel Service for the specific purpose of restoring the Milledge Avenue tree canopy.
