Rising energy prices have made accurate energy measurement a hot topic in recent decades. The need for accurate measurement technologies extends to many different application areas, including heating and cooling; compressed air; steam production and distribution; heavy fuel oil consumption; energy monitoring; and custody transfer. In response, new technology is being developed that integrates tasks previously requiring several measurement devices. The new technology provides far higher accuracy than older systems that require separate devices for all measurement tasks.
One example is KROHNE’s OPTISWIRL 4200 vortex flowmeter, which features integrated pressure and temperature compensation. With an accuracy of 1.5 percent, it is 2 to 3 times more accurate than older systems in which the individual measurement devices have accuracies between 3 and 5 percent.
