Role description summary At SES we are passionate about taking our customers stories anywhere and we achieve this through our amazing colleagues. Wed love for you to become a valued member of our team of exceptional engineers who are working on diverse, challenging projects with many opportunities for collaboration with other teams across SES. As our Engineer, Flight Dynamics, you will be responsible for The orbital control, colocation, orbital events prediction, momentum management and propellant lifetime estimation of the SES GEO and MEO satellites The development of the orbital and satellite control software Shadowing of transfer orbit mission operations in the Flight Dynamics section Providing expertise for any flight dynamics related activity to other stakeholders Primary responsibilities Be responsible for a safe and efficient colocation andor stationkeeping of the SES GEO and MEO satellites, while minimizing propellant usage to maximize satellite lifetime, satisfying satellite constraints and avoiding risk of collision between SES colocated satellites. Manage large unexpected orbit perturbations or maneuver execution performance issues to maintain the satellite in the stationkeeping window and to avoid risk of collision. Design develop and test software in the orbital and satellite control fields to carry out and support all the above. Perform conjunction analysis, interface with external organization e.g. US Air Force, satellite operators and plan corrective maneuvers in case of close approach with another satellite or debris. Determine and maximize satellite propellant lifetime of SES satellites, including propellant tank management Provide orbit and related events predictions information to internal sections, external organization e.g. Teleport and customers Review and challenge the mission design for satellite launches, shadow the implementation and lead the maneuver planning during the inorbit test phase Design and implement satellite relocations to meet SES business needs, while ensuring safe separation with other satellites, minimizing propellant consumption and coping with satellite and interference constraints Collaborate with Satellite Engineering to investigate satellite anomalies related to attitude control and propulsion systems Providing on call support when needed Qualifications Experience Masters degree in physics, mathematics or engineering. Indepth knowledge in following specialized fields astrodynamics, tracking systems, orbit estimation methods, orbital control of GEO and MEO satellites Have a broad and comprehensive knowledge of satellite subsystems, Capable to autonomously solve and model problems in mathematical and physics fields Understanding of numerical analysis and scientific software development Experience in Python software development required, any additional programming language being an asset LinuxUnix environment and GIT version control is preferred Experience in graphical user interface development or test automation is preferred. We use PyQt5 and Froglogics Squish Previous experience with orbital and satellite control software development is considered an asset KEY CHARACTERISTICS Able to work under own initiative and without direct supervision Good negotiation and persuasion skills Able to react to contingencies and cope with high stress situations Excellent communication skills and teamspirit Good time management and project planning skills Willing to be selfcritical and learn from mistakes Eager to learn new topics, propose and take on new challenges Critical thinker, able to provide constructive feedback to improve processes, procedures and tools SES is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer Apply HERE
