By simplifying design approval requirements for angle of attack (AOA) indicators, FAA hopes to improve safety in small aircraft. AOA devices are cockpit instruments that supplement airspeed indicators and stall warning systems to alert pilots of low airspeed condition before dangerous aerodynamic stall occurs. Calling this "a win-win situation," U.S. DoT Secretary Anthony Foxx said, "we are improving safety by streamlining regulations and cutting red tape."<br />
