While aboard Westward Wind on September 12, FAA Alaskan Region inspector Jay Skaggs helped ensure first FAA-approved commercial flights by unmanned aircraft was conducted safely. Westward Wind, which carried 4 Insitu Scan Eagle UAS to perform marine mammal and ice surveys, captured UAS after successful 36 min flight. This flight represents efforts by people from FAA, ConocoPhillips, Insitu, and other agencies who worked for months to open up Arctic for commercial UAS operations.
