Once upon a time, a sweet unpretentious independent film called "Once" attracted notice for its gentle, unhurried tale of a twenty-something Irish street busker and the Eastern European immigrant who becomes his muse and chief fan. The film starred a real life Irish folk-rock singer, Glen Hansard, and colleague Marketa Irglova , who were responsible for the music and lyrics, winning an Academy Award in the process for the lilting, heartbreaking break-out song from the film, "Falling Slowly."
