Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations The European Space Agency is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women POST Flight Dynamics Engineer in the Earth Observation Mission Support Section, Flight Dynamics Division, Ground Systems Engineering Department, Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations. This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESOC, Darmstadt Germany. DUTIES The postholder will participate in providing Flight Dynamics support to satellite projects, including study, development, test, operations, evaluation and maintenance activities, addressing infrastructure and projectspecific issues. The incumbent will be a member of the Section, which is responsible for critical and routine operations support for ESA Earth Observation missions such as CryoSat2 and SWARM, and other missions in preparation such as AEOLUS and EarthCARE flight dynamics support to Sentinel missions supported from ESOC under the joint ESACommission Copernicus Programme routine operations support for legacy science and observatory observation missions ClusterII, XMMNewton and Integral early orbit and drift phase operations of Galileo satellites in cooperation with CNES early orbit operations for thirdparty missions, e.g. Metop and MSG development, validation, utilisation of operational software for EO missions in the areas of orbit and attitude determination control. The postholder will perform the following tasks gathering and managing requirements for Flight Dynamics support to projects gathering and managing software requirements performing and supervising studies developing, adapting, maintaining generic and projectspecific software elements in the areas of orbit and attitude determination control coordinating Divisioninternal support and Divisionexternal representation coordinating at Division level and participating in launch preparation activities and operations coordinating routine and contingency recovery support activities. It is intended that the incumbent will primarily be concerned with support to the above missions. Involvement in other Division tasks is not excluded. Apart from the above, the posts requirements include technical management of work packages carried out by contract firms. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in mathematics, physics or engineering. Candidates should be familiar with working in Flight Dynamics operations support. Experience of Flight Dynamics systems engineering and software systems development is essential. Applicants should be capable of approaching their technical tasks with rigour and discipline, developing and following a systematic, pragmatic and goaloriented approach. Problemsolving skills are essential. Flexibility is required to cope with a multidisciplinarymultiproject operational environment. Previous involvement in comparable Flight Dynamics activities and project management and team leadership experience would be advantages. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
