Position Reference 970 We are currently looking for a Flight DynamicsCommand generation Engineer to work at ESOC premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities Routine command generation of all interplanetary and lagrangian missions in routine operations, including e.g. Mars Express, ExoMars TGO and GAIA. Command Generation for science missions for critical phase e.g. planetary approach, planetary swingby. Work on critical scenarios starts months before the event with designing an operational timeline fulfilling SC constraints and all external requirements e.g. communication requirements science requirements requirements on orbit maintenance. FD command generator design, development and maintenance Identify and implement the required primitive command modules PCMs, that constitute the atomic pieces of SW that may be invoked by a command generation procedure. Setting up validation procedures e.g. check the applicable SC constraints. Conduct a functional emulation to check that the commands produce the desired results. Launch preparation Integration of the FD command generation tools in the operational platform. Testing of tools at unit, subsystem and system level. Participation and support to FD system tests. Participation and support to SVT and ATB tests, and similar tests involving SC, SC engineering models or SC test equipment. Participation and support to FD system initialisation. Participation and support to ESOC wide simulations. LEOP and NECP support in the command generation domain JUICE, RSP and EUCLID Setup of FD Command subsystem for LEOP and NECP support. GNC analyses, e.g. to review GNC design aspects, analyse telemetry or provide consultancy for ground segment and ESA project teams of interplanetary and science missions. Review of GNC documentation and inputs from SC manufacturer for Science missions. Definition of ground procedures for command generation, in coordination with SC manufacturer, SC project group and Ground segment. Oncall support may be required during LEOP periods and for critical operations. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, Keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Very good C programming skills and experience, in particular in objectoriented design and coding skills using C as main programming language. Experience in scripting languages, e.g. python, shell scripting languages. Experience in Linux operating system. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarityexperience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles, .... Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. Lagrangian formulation. Knowledge of Fortran 77952003. How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level? Interested applicants should submit their CV and Cover Letter to RHEAs Recruitment team at careersrheagroup.com no later than 27082021.
